Matz So you use code to overcome the English problem. I see.
So you’ve been engaging in this activity for three years, has it had any influence on your life?

Kamizono Influence?

Matz You’ve kept up this activity for some time. Has it had any impact on your life?

Kamizono I see. If you have something other than work that you’re continually working on, you have some motivation outside your working life. I guess I just think it’s nice to have something like that.

Matz I see, I see.

Kamizono For me, it was this work. Depending on the person it could be running.

Matz Ah, I get it. This isn’t your full time job.

Kamizono No, it’s not.

Matz But you’re still doing it almost every day.

Kamizono Yes. I’m determined to not have my activity ignored while I’m a contributor.

Matz Working from the ground up.

Kamizono That’s right, and as evenly as possible. Even you keep fighting the same issue, it won’t be very effective. Even if there’s only one issue you really want to fix, the committers have to review all of the patches, and if one contributor keeps working on the same patch it might not be possible to keep up with them. In particularly long cases there are some who only get merged a year after submitting. So it’s better to spread out your patches over a variety of areas, you know hang a lot of fish hooks at once. As long as you keep up the pace, there will be a response somewhere. For that reason I kept up broad, even activity but now that I’m a committer I can just fix things directly myself.

Matz Yeah, that’s true.

Kamizono Recently I’ve been finishing my own work on weekends. During the week I’ll be reviewing contributor’s patches so I do my own fixes on the weekends.

Matz I see. So I’ve asked about your past and present activities. You have been a contributor, you have been issuing pull requests but now you’re a committer and do maintenance directly. Your position has changed somewhat. Do you have any new perspectives or ambitions for your activities here on out?

Kamizono Ambitions, you say? That’s tough. What to say?

Matz If it’s just to continue as you are that’s fine.

Kamizono Well, as long as RoR continues to be something used. I like fixing things people use. So as long as people continue to use RoR I’ll continue to fix it.

Matz It seems like that might continue for some time.

Kamizono Yes, it does.

Matz It’s no longer topical at the top level but there are still very many people who continue to use it.

Kamizono That’s true.

Matz Well since there are also a lot of people just beginning to use it, there’s no risk of you getting bored with RoR for the time being anyway.
Kamizono That’s right, as long as people keep using it.
Matz I got it, thank you very much.
I hope this prize becomes somewhat of an incentive.

Kamizono Thank you.

Matz Well, that’s it. Thank you very much.

Kamizono Thank you.
